| Here's my project. found this on Ebay, 2.0L duratec engine. Its covered 133,000 miles and is from a 2001 mondeo. They said the engine was smoking abit under load. probable cause could be... valve stem oil seals head gasket piston rings and a few other things which could of checked had it been in car and running still im gunna give it a full going over, new big end bearings shells, gaskets, rings and valve stem seals, the usual there a 3 routes i could go down N/A, supercharged, Turbo when i finally decide which a want to do, i'll post the details up | |

| I think we should begin Stripping the Head, clean it up and polish as we discussed. We can also make a template for the EGR blanking plate and suss out anything else you may need | |

| naturally aspirated is where its at people.
Careful if your planning on polishing/porting the head, may well end up being detrimental. I'd leave the inlet as it is, perhaps polish the exhaust ports up as these may benefit from having a smoother surface for the gasses to flow over, perhaps also look into matching the ports on the exhaust manifold to those on the head?
Just my 2 cents... | |

| points note and taken
Were not planning on porting, for that reason, just cleaning it up and remove cast marks and get the ports finger touch smooth | |

| Still may not be beneficial on the inlet ports, simply because the air and fuel relies, to a certain extent on turbulence to mix the two together. By smoothing and polishing the imperfections out of the inlet ports, what will aid the mixture? On the same token though, i can see where your coming from, you don't want it to be too restrictive and effectively hold up some of the air/fuel trying to enter the engine? | |

| ok so i stripped it down this weendend. the valve are nice crpped up big time, must be 3mm of build up on them, took the pistons out, the pistons them were in good condition but one of them had a split ring, and the cyclinder liners are fine. however, looking at the piston shells, it looks as tho the engine hasnt had regular oil changes and has been oil starved and dirt contamination. heres the pics piston 1 shell was spining aswell. the crank shells have very light marks the cranks its self seems to be fine, but im going to get it check out by john at shawspeed. and been cleaing block and and stuff ready for painting, might aswell seen as its free to do | |
